Monosialoganglioside GM1, Solution for Injection (单唾液酸四己糖神经节苷脂钠注射液)

A neuroprotectant for vascular and traumatic CNS damage, pediatric cerebral palsy, and Parkinson's disease.

Composition

Active substance: sodium monosialotetrahexosylganglioside (GM1), obtained from porcine brain.

Dosage form

Colorless clear liquid; 2 ml ampoules (20 mg).

Pharmacological action

Provides a neuroprotective effect and promotes the repair ("neurorestoration") of damaged nerve cells.

Indications

  • Vascular or traumatic damage to the central nervous system, spinal cord injury.
  • Cerebral infarction, cerebral hemorrhage, brain injury.
  • Pediatric cerebral palsy; hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy of the newborn.
  • Parkinson's disease.

Administration

Usually 20–40 mg per day intramuscularly or by intravenous drip. In the acute period — up to 100 mg per day by intravenous drip, followed by a maintenance dose. The dose and course length are determined by a physician.

Adverse reactions

  • Rarely, skin rash; in this case the drug should be discontinued.

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to the drug.
  • Hereditary disorders of glycolipid metabolism (e.g., familial amaurotic idiocy, retinal degeneration).

Special instructions

Isolated cases of Guillain–Barré syndrome, possibly associated with ganglioside products, have been reported. If limb weakness, inability to hold objects, or flaccid paralysis appears (usually on days 5–10 of use), seek medical attention immediately.
