Composition

Active substance: methylcobalamin (mecobalamin), 0.5 mg per ampoule; the active coenzyme form of vitamin B12.

Dosage form

Solution for injection (red-colored), 1 ml ampoules (0.5 mg).

Pharmacological action

Participates in myelin synthesis and in the metabolism of nucleic acids and proteins in nerve tissue; supports the repair of damaged nerve fibers and the conduction of nerve impulses.

Use in pediatric neurorehabilitation

In pediatric practice, methylcobalamin is used to support the nervous system and cognitive development — in autism spectrum disorders and in psychomotor and speech developmental delay — based on its role in the repair of nerve fibers and nerve-tissue metabolism. The decision to prescribe and the regimen are determined individually by the treating physician, weighing benefits and risks.

Administration

Given by injection; in rehabilitation it is also administered by infiltration of biologically active points (acupoint injection, 穴位注射). The course is usually about one month; the single dose, frequency, and duration are determined individually by the physician, taking the child's age into account.

Adverse reactions

• Rarely, hypersensitivity reactions (drop in blood pressure, difficulty breathing); if they occur, administration is stopped immediately.
• Local injection-site reactions are possible.

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to the components.

Special instructions

The drug degrades in light — protect from light; use an opened ampoule immediately.
