How the procedure works
The needle knife (Chinese 针刀, English acupotomy) is a minimally invasive traditional Chinese medicine technique that combines the principles of acupuncture and microsurgery. Treatment is performed with a special thin instrument with a flat working tip — the "needle knife" — which combines the properties of an acupuncture needle and a miniature scalpel. The method is aimed at working with thickened, adhesion-bound, and scar-altered soft tissues.
The needle knife is used strictly as prescribed by a physician, as part of an individual plan, and only in the absence of contraindications. The decision on the appropriateness of the method, the indications, and the treatment regimen are determined at an in-person consultation.

The TCM physician assesses the child's condition, takes a history, and determines whether the method is appropriate.
