Low Immunity and Frequent Colds
Also known as: Frequently ill child, Reduced immunity, Frequent acute respiratory infections, Weakened immunity
A program for children with low immunity and frequent colds at H&B Neurolife (Shangrao). Biomedical core (microbiota, nutritional support) and TCM methods — strengthening constitution and reducing illness frequency.
What is Low Immunity and Frequent Colds?
Low immunity and frequent colds are a group of conditions in which the child's resistance is reduced: frequent acute respiratory infections (more than 6–8 episodes per year), long recovery after illness, tendency toward otitis and adenoiditis, and post-cold complications. Causes vary: gut microbiota dysbiosis (about 70% of immunity is formed in the gut), deficiencies of microelements and vitamins, constitutional features (in TCM — spleen-and-stomach weakness, Qi deficiency), and chronic stress. In children with ASD, low immunity occurs often and is associated with the GI component.
At H&B Neurolife International Rehabilitation Center (Shangrao), work on immunity is built on a combination of biomedical and TCM directions — both rely on a single logic: "the foundation of immunity is the gut and nutritional status." Gut microbiota regulation is based on precision microbiota testing with personalized probiotics and dietary therapy. Nutritional support replenishes deficiencies of vitamins, microelements, and essential fatty acids. Pediatric Tui Na massage — in TCM logic — strengthens the spleen and stomach (the foundation of immunity) and restores channel patency; parents are taught simple Tui Na techniques for home use. Pediatric acupuncture harmonizes Qi and blood and regulates organ function. Chinese herbal medicine (as part of TCM care) complements the program.
What matters for parents
The low-immunity course usually delivers improvement not only in the frequency of colds but also in the child's overall state — energy, appetite, and tolerance of load. Acute infection and temperature above 37.1°C are contraindications — medical stabilization comes first, and then systematic work on immunity follows.
Causes
Linked to gut microbiota dysbiosis (about 70% of immunity forms in the gut), vitamin and microelement deficiencies, and in TCM — spleen-and-stomach weakness and Qi deficiency.
Symptoms
Frequent colds (more than 6–8 per year), slow recovery, and a tendency toward otitis and adenoiditis. Often persistent fatigue and low tolerance of physical and emotional load.
Diagnostics
Pediatric assessment and, when indicated, precision microbiota testing and nutritional status assessment. In TCM — constitution, spleen-and-stomach, and Qi deficiency.
Prognosis and Treatment Approach
Systematic work reduces illness frequency and speeds recovery. It combines microbiota regulation, nutritional support, Tui Na massage, acupuncture, and herbal medicine.
